GUYS. I’m going to be a guest at Big Wow ComicFest this May 18-19 in San Jose and I’m really looking forward to it! Whee! Thing is, I’ve got these four costumes that are finished/near finished, that have never been debuted or photographed, and I don’t know which one to bring! I love ‘em all.

So can you toss in a vote for one of these? Feel free to comment/reblog with what you’d like to see, too - it would just be easier if it was done through the FB poll.

And, yes, all these costumes will all show up eventually, somewhere.

So a few people wished the Ask I posted yesterday was rebloggable, so I made it so!

These are all my non-Marvel comic costumes (omitting the two other versions of Dawn I made). I’m looking forward to adding Balent-style Catwoman to the roster, as well as Witchblade, and Promethea.

I’m just not that into DC. I’ve tried. And I don’t do a costume just for the helluvit - I’ve got to really like the character and the comic!

You can see more shots of each of these costume on Facebook.

A couple people have sent me this article today, containing interesting costume redesigns of some of our favorite super-heroines.

Zatanna’s makes a lot of sense, and I like Elektra and Psylocke. Vampirella is interesting, though I’m not sure I’d say that was Vampirella if it wasn’t labeled. I’m not sure I like the jean/khaki-like pants on Black Canary and WW - there is something to be said for the freedom of movement without pants on, and both characters are very active. I don’t know why cleavage is always covered up, though. Granted, PG’s amount of cleavage can be pretty gratuitous, but in everyday life wearing a flattering top, like with a V-neck, can make a woman feel more feminine, and maybe more attractive, which can be a boost in confidence. The same can be said for legs - I like Super Girl’s look, but what’s the harm if she show some leg? It’s all personal preference, of course, and this artist might be pushing for a more conservative look, though I like to see a little skin. Covering up entirely speaks to me as someone who’s closed-off, perhaps a little insecure, or stiff…and I think we can all agree that these ladies are confident in mind and body.

For me, the perfect costume redesigns would have an artist take into account a character’s powers, their typical range of movement, realistic comfort (I like the flat heels in these!), and a ‘best attribute’ - like some cleavage, or bare arms, or bare legs, or tummy - but only chose one and go with it. That would speak ‘real’ to me. What would your ideal costume redesign be like?

Lunchtime sketch for today: The ever awesome BelleChere as Power Girl!

My friend Big Chris never fails to make me smile. I’ve always loved how he draws Power Girl - all of his sketches have delightful character and life to them, making me happy when I see an update from him. So I was outright giddy to see this particular sketch. Thank you, Big Chris!
You should go check out his Etsy store!

Also, there’s this! I’m wicked excited to be heading to MegaCon this weekend! Anyone else going?
When I was sent this pic, the first thing that came into my mind was: “We’re gonna get where we’re going, you and me. Death and indignity be damned. We’ll get there, and we will be the stars we were always meant to be.”

Heyyo Tumblrites! So I’ve entered myself into a costume contest and I would really, really appreciate your sessy little click to help get me to New Orleans. I’ve never been able to visit NOLA, and it’s been at the top of my ‘to visit’ list. If I win this contest, I have the chance to be flown to Wizard World New Orleans (2013)!

Please vote here!

Thank you!

The response to my post yesterday was a wee bit underwhelming, given the enthusiasm previously expressed by people. I understand - you need pics to grab your attention. Here they are!

So go check out my new website! Read it. Maybe buy something. I would hate to present a meager check to the fine people at Hero Initiative.

Also, this photo set came from an interview I did. Two for one! Bazinga!

Alright. I present the follow-up to this post. If you’ve been interested in prints of my photos, click on the photo above, and head to bellechere.net.
It’s a simple site. Very, very simple, but, hey, I’m a better seamstress than I am at web design and HTML. It’s young, has plenty of room to grow, and is simply covering the basics of ordering prints right now, but I hope to develop it into something more in the time to come.
For those of you who have been asking to donate rather than purchase a print, you’ll find that on there too.
Enjoy! Share! And go easy on me with the critiques, will ya?

Heads up! After years of being on the fence on the matter, I’m going to start selling prints, soon. Very soon. Here’s the deal: $10 a pop, and half of that money will be donated to the HeroInitiative.org. The other half I’ll make magic with. Sound good? I hope to have at least a single print available for most of my costumes, but please let me know what y’all want so I know where the demand is. The pics in the collage will definitely be available for prints.

EDIT: Might be $12 a pop with a 3 for $30 deal. $5 flat shipping, no matter how many prints you buy. I’ve actually been told by a number of people already that I’m not charging enough! Never thought I’d hear that complaint!

UPDATE: Prints are now for sale at bellechere.net!

COSPLAY
I don’t think I can cope with  TWO Power Girls, both extremely well equipped. I shall have to have a lie down.

*snorts* The caption. Reblogging because two Power Girls ARE better than one. This is me (left) and ArizonaPG (really sweet lady!) at NYCC. Photo by Robbins Studios.
Also, I’m no longer paying for a pro Flickr account, so the majority of my pics can no longer be seen there. Not sure where I’ll be posting pics now.

I hope everyone’s having a blast down at MegaCon! I was there two years ago and wish I could have worked it out to return this year.
This is one of my favorite pics from that MegaCon - Amanda Conner and I! I’ve been a fan of her work since she came on the scene, loved seeing her talent be recognized (so few women are in the comic industry!), and was thrilled to meet one of my artistic inspirations.
The second pic was her idea.

A day late, but Happy Birthday to Stan ‘The Man’ Lee! 89 years young! It was a pleasure to have met him this year.
So this pic comes with a bit of a story. I was chatting with my friends, it was near the end of NYCC, and a guy with a SECURITY badge taps me on the shoulder. “Excuse me, could we get your picture, over here?” He motions to a booth and I say: “Would you mind coming over here for the picture? I’m chatting with my friends.” “No,” he says, “I don’t think you understand. Stan Lee would like a photo with you.” I reached across, grabbed my friend’s arm, and said “OhMyGod, StanLeeWantsAPicWithMe!” This is what it takes for me to abandon a conversation with my friends, hah! I walk into the booth, the guy says “One last photo for the day, Mr. Lee.” Stan turns and looks at me, flings his arms wide, and says “Oh no! You mean I have to get a picture with /another/ gorgeous woman?!” What a flirt. My one big wish was that I was in a Marvel costume! Go figure.

Myself and my friend Heather ‘Cat’ Harris as Power Girl and Marvel Girl. I was so excited to see Heather at NYCC! Given that we live on opposite coasts, we don’t always get to run into one another. We wound up chatting for a couple of hours, it was great.
We each made our own costumes. Heather told me the (temporary) tattoo on her back took hours to apply by a Hollywood-level airbrush artist.
